THE GREAT SALVATION

image_pdfimage_print

Beggs March 7, 2021

READ: Heb.2:1‑4

INTRODUCTION:

  1. We turn to the Bible to learn what makes the salvation that Christ offers so great.
  2. We do this because the Bible is our standard in all matters of the soul, Psa.119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
  3. II Tim.3:16‑17 Quote!
  4. IF THE BIBLE SAYS IT, THAT SETTLES IT! WE MUST OBEY IT.
  5. Our study will show how foolish it is to neglect the great salvation offered by Jesus Christ.

DISCUSSION:

  1. SALVATION IS SO GREAT BECAUSE IT IS ETERNAL.
  2. There are salvations recorded in the Bible, and history, but those are temporal.
  3. Christ’s salvation is so great because it gives the truly worthwhile life now and eternally, Jn.10:10b, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Mark 10:29‑30, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospels. But he shall receive an hundred fold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.”
  4. CHRIST’S SALVATION IS SO GREAT BECAUSE CHRIST, THE SOURCE OF SALVATION, IS SO GREAT.
  5. Jn.14:6, “I am the way, I am the life and I am the way, no man cometh to the father but by me”.
  6. Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
  7. Matt.17:5, “While he spoke, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”’
  8. Matt.28:18, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth”.
  9. John 6:68‑69, “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”
  10. READ BIBLE: Phil.2:9‑11, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  11. Col.1:18, “And he is the head of the church: who is the beginning, the first born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre‑eminence.”
  12. Heb.12:1‑2 our reading.
  13. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is to our salvation what the sun is to the solar system.

III. CHRIST’S SALVATION IS SO GREAT BECAUSE IT SAVES US FROM HELL. Matt:25:41 & 46, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” 46, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal.”

  1. The Bible teaches that all have sinned.
  2. Rom.3:23, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
  3. Rom.6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
  4. 1 Jn.1:8 & 10, “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 10, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
  5. The Bible pictures how ugly sin really is!
  6. Isa.59:1‑2, “Behold the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy that he cannot hear; But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
  7. READ: 2 Thess.1:7‑9, “and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
  8. “Where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” Mark 9:44, 46, 48.
  9. “Outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matt.25:30.
  10. How thrilling to miss that place called hell. How wonderful the great salvation.
  11. THE SALVATION OF CHRIST IS SO GREAT BECAUSE IT IS SALVATION IN HEAVEN.
  12. Heb.5:8‑9, “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.”
  13. Matt.7:21, “Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven.”
  14. Jn. 14:15, “If you love me keep my commandments.”
  15. 4. READ: 2 Pet.1:5‑11, But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.10Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  1. THE SALVATION IS SO GREAT BECAUSE OF THE PRICE PAID FOR IT.
  2. Jn.3:16 Quote!
  3. 1 Pet.1:18‑19, “For as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spit.”

Neglecting The Salvation  POD 1-3-6

  1. Like a loving parent warns his or her child of anything that would hurt them, God, our loving heavenly father, gives a most solemn warning. Heb.2:1, “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”
  2. We talked about the great salvation last week and it is great because it is Eternal, Christ the source of salvation is great, It saves us from hell, It’s destiny is heaven.
  3. GOD’S ATTITUDE TOWARD THE SMALLEST INFRACTION OF THE LAW OF MOSES.
  4. Heb.2:2, “For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward.”
  5. Exo.20:8‑11, 8 “Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy.” Because the Lord blessed that day and hallowed it.”
  6. Numbers 15:32‑36, A man was caught picking up sticks on the Sabbath day and the Lord said he must be stoned to death.
  7. Numbers 4:15 God gave a rule that the sons of Kohath shall not touch any holy thing or they would die.
  8. 2 Sam.6:6‑7, Uzzah touched the arc of God to keep it from falling, and God smote him there for his error and he died.
  9. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO NEGLECT THE GREAT SALVATION?
  10. Neglect = to slight; to treat carelessly or indifferently; to give little attention; to show little concern; a don’t care attitude.
  11. One does not have to take a hammer and chisel and knock his teeth out to destroy them ‑ just neglect them.

III. WHAT IS THE GREAT SALVATION? WHAT IS INCLUDED?

  1. The care of the widows and orphans are a part of the great salvation. James 1:27, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”
  2. Keeping ourselves pure from the ways of the world are also included. Jas.1:27; Rom.12:1‑2, “I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” Matt.5:14‑16, “Ye are the light of the world. A city set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven.”

  1. Preaching the gospel of Christ to all of the world is included in the great salvation. Mark 16:15‑16, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

1 Tim.3:15, “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

  1. Believing in Jesus as the Son of God and being baptized is a part of the great salvation. Mark 16:15‑16, Acts 2:36‑38, Peter was preaching the first gospel sermon then said, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
  2. Treating others like you would have them to treat you is also apart of the great salvation. Matt.7:12.
  3. Communicating with God in Bible study and prayer is also apart. 2 Tim.2:15, 1 Thess.5:17 QUOTE!
  4. The church assembling for worship is a part of the great salvation. Acts 2:42, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” 20:7, “And upon the first day of the week,, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech unto midnight.” Heb.10:25 Quote!
  5. Stewardship is a part of the great salvation. Psa.24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.”
  6. Acts 4:32 The early Christians gave all they had for the church.
  7. 1 Cor.16:1‑2 Tells us to give as the Lord has prospered us on the first day of the week.
  8. 2 Cor.9:6‑7 Says we will reap as we sow, and we are to give as we purpose in our heart, not grudgingly of necessity but be a cheerful giver.
  9. 2 Cor.8:5 The early Christians first gave themselves to the Lord then gave beyond what was expected.
  10. Putting Christ, God and the church first is also a part of the great salvation. 1. Matt.22:37‑38 tells us to love the Lord with all of our being.
  11. Col.1:18, “And he is the head of the church; who is the beginning, the first born from the dead; that in all things he might have pre‑eminence.” Matt.6:33 Quote!
  12. OUR LOVING FATHER ASKS THE PENETRATING QUESTION, “HOW SHALL CHRISTIANS ESCAPE ETERNAL PUNISHMENT IF THEY NEGLECT THE SUPERIOR LAW OF CHRIST?”
  13. The question, “How shall we escape?” was the Lord’s way of saying in the clearest manner, “There is no escape for all who slight or neglect the great salvation.”

  1. There is only one salvation from sin. Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is not other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

CONCLUSION:

  1. Beloved, the most traveled road to hell is neglect. Matt.7:13, “Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:”
  2. We ought, therefore, to pay the greatest attention to the truth we have heard.

  1. Jesus pleads with us to come to Him and receive this salvation, Matt.11:28‑30, “Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart. and ye shall fine rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

  1. Please do not neglect to obey the gospel.
  2. Please do not neglect to live a faithful life.
  3. There is no escape, except through Jesus

Jim Pinkston Retirement

image_pdfimage_print

Jim Pinkston has retired January 1, 2021 from the prison ministry after 30+ years of ministering  to the most forgotten of our society.

Bud Tibbles and Jim Pinkston

But not to worry, Jim will still be active in the ministry as time allows. When the lock down is over, Jim will continue to preach at Dick Conner’s Correctional Center in Hominy Ok on the 1st and 3rd Sundays on the medium side, and the 4th Sunday on the minimum side, with Jim C filling in on the 1st Sunday on the Minimum side, and any other time Jim Pinkston can’t be there.

Apparently Jim has found a need to slow down a bit, spend more time with grandchildren, and travel with his wife Jean.

Sermon Beggs The Season of Return

Good morning, great to be here with you

Praise God we are able to gather here together and worship God in truth and spirit, in prayer, song, and message
Todays message will be a bit different.
We will briefly cover todays events and how they fit into scripture
So we will look at:
1. Current events
2. Commands of God
a. To know and obey His commands.
b. To know how to defend our beliefs with logic.
i. By offering information concerning bible passages that cannot be explained without the influence of a super intelligent being
ii. By offering information that confirms evidence that the bible is legitimately the truth by outside sources
c. To know and understand prophies, those fulfilled and those unfulfilled, and how they relate to one another.
i. By looking at prophesies that have been fulfilled and how they were fulfilled perfectly.
ii. How the fulfilled prophesies gives us faith in the unfulfilled prophesies
iii. The signs of the end times.

SERMON

Well, we have a new president, and he wasted no time with executive decisions that will most likely cause a crash of the already weak economy due to the covid-19 pandemic.
He has already decided it is okay for homosexual boys to compete in sports with girls.
I understand he has already or is about to re-establish the Obama law making it legal for a school boy to identify himself as a girl and use the girl’s locker rooms and restrooms in the schools, and that decision can be made on a daily basis, and in addition to that, it is or will soon be legal for men to use women’s public restrooms again whenever they choose.
And, as you know the democrat party stands against freedom of religion, even to the point of removing the rights we have to worship as we please using the covid-19 as their excuse.
Church buildings are setting empty all over the nation,
while protesters gather with great blessing from those same leaders.
Well, I bring all that up to make a point.
Daniel 2: 21 tells us God raises up leaders and removes leaders and 1 Peter 2:17 tells us we are to honor those leaders,

And I believe He raises up leaders to either bless a nation or curse a nation.
One of the possible reasons I see for Him raising up this evil in our nation,
to lead us, is to curse us.

Ezekiel 14:13-14
13 “Son of man, when a land sins against Me by persistent unfaithfulness, I will stretch out My hand against it; I will cut off its supply of bread, send famine on it, and cut off man and beast from it. 14 Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness,” says the Lord God.
We just had a leader who was attempting to lead America back to its original ideology of honoring God’s will.

I hope God did this so we could see more clearly the evil direction the left is wishing to lead the nation.

But I think it was to fulfill His prophecies of end-times… the return of our savior.
And we should be able to find comfort in that, but we need to know what evidence points to that.

There are three divisions in scripture which I believe all work together to help describe the end time events, and I will be sharing those with you today.
God tells us we are to obey his commands and in order to do that we must know what those commands are.
John 14: 15 if you love me keep my commandments
1 John 2:4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
THAT MEANS WE MUST STUDY THE SCRIPTURE IN ORDER TO KNOW THOSE COMMANDS
2 Timothy 2:15Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.

God tells us we are to be ready to defend his word and our faith at any time we’re asked

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts set Christ apart [as holy—acknowledging Him, giving Him first place in your lives] as Lord. Always be ready to give a [logical] defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope and confident assurance [elicited by faith] that is within you, yet [do it] with gentleness and respect.

this is where Christian apologetics comes in and we should have some basic knowledge of the reasons that we can trust the scripture to be the word of God
The inspired word of God
we can know these defenses by knowing and understanding the scientific facts stated in the scripture that could not have been known by mankind at the time it was presented.
I suggest everyone learn two or three of these facts so you can be able to defend the bible.
Read them, and choose your favorite examples, for that makes easier to remember.
there are two areas in which we should know
the science as I just stated and mathematics.
and I will give you a few scientific facts this morning to illustrate how we do know God has inspired the Bible by putting in these scientific facts.
And of course, they are my favorites
Now, evolution is the only other option to creation to account for our presence.

It is mathematically impossible, and I will give you an example of that by looking at population growth. But I will only give a very edited version of that.

I have two favorite facts from the Bible I like to share in regard to our Earth.
Bear in mind there over a hundred of such scientific facts stated, in regard to diet, health, geology, biology and any other ology you can think of.
Two of my favorites are.
Fountains & Mountains stated to exist in the bottom of the ocean in Gen 7:11, Job 16, & Jonah 2:6
Obviously when these were written, no man could explore the ocean floor, it is too deep, too dark, and the pressure is enormous.
It wasn’t until 1977 that science with the help of deep diving submarines built to withstand 6,000 pounds per square inch, were oceanographers able to study the ocean floor, and what do you think they found? Yep… mountains and fountains just as the bible said.
DNA referred to in Psalms `139:13 – 16

Psalm 139:13-16 Amplified Bible
13 For You formed my innermost parts;
You knit me [together] in my mother’s womb.
14 I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was being formed in secret,
And intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Your book were all written
The days that were appointed for me,
When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape].

It wasn’t until 1953 That two scientists, Watkins and Crick discovered DNA, the building blocks of life, a code, which the bible told us about 3,000 years ago.
Let’s take a look at facts outside of the bible that confirm evolution is impossible,
What does mathematics tell us about mankind?
There are many ways to prove the impossibility of evolution mathematically.
However the following is my favorite, because I think it is the easiest to understand.
THE POPULATION OF THE WORLD

The population of the world, based upon the Berlin census reports of 1922, was found to be 1.8 billion.
The human race must double itself 30.75 times to make this numbers.
In other words, if we raise two to the thirtieth power, we have app 1 billion 73 million people; or to the thirty-first power, app 2 billion 147 million. Therefore, it is evident that to have the 1922 population of the globe, the net population must be doubled more than thirty times and less than thirty-one times. We find it to be 30.75 times. After all allowances are made for natural deaths, wars, catastrophes, and losses of all kinds, if humans would double its numbers 30.75 times, we would have the population of app 1.75 billion people around the globe in 1922.
Now, according to the chronology of Hales, based on the Septuagint text, 5077 years have elapsed since the flood, By dividing 5077 by 30.75, we find it requires an average of 165 years to double the population.
The basic premise of Science is to see or reproduce or observe the evidence of a matter before it becomes a theory or law. And this is what we have with population studies.
It is confirmed by the number of Jews, or descendants of Jacob. According to Hales, 3850 years have passed since the marriage of Jacob.
By the same method of calculation as above, the Jews, who, according to the Jewish yearbook for 1922, numbered app 15.4 million must have doubled their numbers app 23.9 times, or approximately once every 161years.
Also, the 25,000,000 descendants of Abraham must have doubled their numbers app every 162years, during the 3,988 years since the birth of his son Ishmael. These periods of doubling which tally so closely, app 165 years for the whole race, 161 for the Jews, and 162 years for the descendants of Ishmael, cannot be a mere coincidence, but are a demonstration against the great age of man required by evolution, the correspondence of these figures, 165 ,161 and 162 is so remarkable that it must bring the conviction to every serious student that the flood destroyed mankind and Noah became the head of the race.
Final observation, since 1922 the time used for this lesson, the population has risen to close to 8 billion people, more than tripling itself in app 90 years.
This is an indication that the population is now growing exponentially. According to Harvard social biologist Edward O. Wilson, the earth has a maximum carrying capacity of 9 to 10 billion people before we run short of fresh water, and resources to feed the people. f we continue at the current rate, we should hit maximum levels in 20 – 30 years. And, honestly… less than that… and what will happen? Total Chaos? We don’t have the answers do we.
However, we can see how this is a huge indication that we are in the last days.
Prophesies
this section and also part of it which confirms the last section offers us these evidences…
Because the fulfilled predictions have been fulfilled perfectly, and that the lions share of these predictions have been fulfilled, leaving just a few end-time events, we can find faith in these last day predictions to be just as accurate as those already fulfilled.

to begin with there are approximately 2500 prophecies in other words predictions of future events in the Bible that have already been fulfilled.
Approximately 2,500 prophecies appear in the pages of the Bible, which already have been fulfilled to the letter—no errors.
And, I think most commentators are saying they have all been fulfilled except a few end times events which are in place to be fulfilled.
this accomplishes two things first again it supports the fact that the Bible had to be inspired by a higher knowledge.
Secondly the prophecies which were fulfilled were filled so perfectly that it gives us confidence that the few remaining prophecies will also be fulfilled perfectly.
the unfulfilled prophecies are included because we are to be watchers.
we cannot know the end or the last day and hour no one knows that but God however we are commanded to know the seasons and I want to give you some examples of how we can know that we are now in the season of the return of Christ.

Daniel 12:4 states that there will be increased knowledge and people be running to and fro .
Psalms 83 list a group of nations that will come against Israel.
Many think this was fulfilled before Christ was born but it could not have been because it’s not until today that all these nations are ready, in union, to attack Israel as a group.

the other fact is that the Bible tells us when they attacked Israel, they will all be destroyed they’ll be left desolate and that has not happened to any of these nations and in history there’s only been 2 or three of these nations that may have attacked Israel at the same time … that brings us to modern day prophecy.
That gives us a pattern that when things are fulfilled they may be fulfilled individually but then in the last days as a group.
For instance in Matthew 24 it tells us there will be earthquakes, pestilences, famines wars and rumors of wars and these have all happened at various times throughout history but it is only today that they’re all happening at once
So, there is a pattern emerging,
Prophesies from both the old testament and New Testament declaring certain events must be occurring at the same time when the end comes, and we are seeing that today.
In the prison system we have studied Apologetics from every angle
Now we are going to be studying prophesies, and especially end time prophesies, from every angle
And I will probably be sharing that information with you in sermon form as it develops.
So, to recap
We must know Gods word.
We must know how to defend God’s word logically.
We must have a solid understanding of prophesies.
We must become watchers.

Matthew 24:32-33 Amplified Bible
Parable of the Fig Tree
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its young shoots become tender and it puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near; 33 so you, too, when you see all [a]these things [taking place], know for certain that He is near, right [b]at the door.
And, again, what are these things? Those things listed above when they are all coming together at the same time.
And like John the Baptist… a voice crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord.
We must warn the people.
Now let us close in our typical fashion with Numbers 6: 24 – 26
24 “The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’
I pray as we leave here today, you will keep watch, and warn whoever you can, we are in the season of the end.
Thank you for your time and the lesson is yours.
